Immigration & US Citizenship News By Kieran C. O’SullivanImmigration Counselor
Tax Issues
One of our callers this week was undocumented and had concerns about tax filing requirements following an employers request for a Tax identification number. While rules have tightened in recent years, tax identification numbers are still available to immigrants who want to file tax returns.
Another caller was concerned about tax returns affecting eligibility for Mass. Health, an emergency health care coverage. If you have any questions on these issues, remember we’re here for you and can point you in the right direction, sometimes referring to professionals in these fields for counsel. Remember: the April 15th tax filing deadline is fast approaching.
Speaker on Immigration Reform
There are Irish Apostolate centers all around the US and our person on the ground in our DC office is Geri Garvey. This week I heard from Geri with regard to remarks made by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Speaker Pelosi strongly supports immigration reform and recently made remarks critical of ICE tactics detaining immigrants. She said that breaking down doors in the middle of the night to take mothers and fathers from their children is un-American. Shortly after her supportive statements, right wing media hosts launched an attack on Speaker Pelosi for her remarks.
Speaker Pelosi needs to hear from you so she can continue to stand strong for the best of what our nation stands for, not our worst. Geri Garvey has asked that Irish activists voice their opinion. Please go to America’s Voicewebsite, at http://americasvoiceonline.org/page/speakout/PelosiReformsand send a note in support of Speaker Pelosi.

Feel free to give us a call to discuss your individual case as there may be no need to spend thousands of dollars on attorney fees if the situation does not warrant same.
