Senior Notes
Cora Flood
St. Brigid, St. Blaise and St. Valentine, the beginning of February is choc full of special dates with spiritual and cultural significance for many of us.
We got February off to a noteworthy start with the 5th annual St. Brigid’s Day celebration organized by Maureen McNally and hosted by the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians in Watertown. All of us attending from the Irish Pastoral Centre had a great afternoon and evening. There was fun, food and friends to be made for people of all ages. Extra special thanks to Maureen and Gerry McNally, LAOH members, craft instructors (with lots of patience), musicians young and older who performed for Mass and during the evening ceili. Frank Bane and Céol Tradisiunta na h’Eireann members, to the chefs and raffle donors, to all who pitched in on the day to make the event memorable. Mass was celebrated in honor of all deceased members of the LAOH, Watertown with special tribute being paid to past presidents Pat Curran and Lorraine McSorley who had died recently.

Making Wellness Matter; Avoid Feeling Blue this winter
- Exercise-this helps your mood by releasing “feel good”: chemicals into the brain. It also helps to increase your energy levels and elevate your metabolism.
- Eat a healthy diet-refined and processed food such as white bread and sugar deplete energy levels and can negatively impact our mood. Try to include whole grains, fruits and vegetables and drink 8 glasses of water a day to stabilize your blood sugar and your energy levels.
- Avoid excessive drinking-while staying in with a glass of wine may seem like a good idea, alcohol does act like a depressant and can make your mood worse.
- Treat yourself-having something to look forward to can help get you through the winter months. Plan a vacation, a day trip; stop by our coffee mornings or Cara Club! Have a girls or boys afternoon out…
